University Project
2026
Created in direct response to an ISTD brief, Streets in the Sky tackles the Power brief through a Brutalist lens in the format of a publication, and a calendar.
Reyner Banham defines Brutalism in three simple principles.
• Clear Exhibition of Structure
• Valuation of Materials as Found
• Memorability of Image
These three principles didn’t just inform the project, the project was designed around them.
Streets in the Sky is two publications, Britain Brut and Brutalist Calendar 2026, housed in a black wooden box. The calendar is designed around a Brutalist building of my own design, where each floor is a month, and each room is a day. You navigate it the way Brutalism makes you feel, there’s no easy way through.
The book covers are cast in concrete. The publications sit between two monolithic slabs, bound with an exposed coptic stitch, and wrapped in a screen-printed skip bag, the kind you’d find at a demolition site.

The project grew and grew, and to be entirely honest, I'm not completely sure it's over yet…
This project started off as simply as a Brutalist Calendar, and just a few months later my days were spent casting concrete and designing molds. The project grew so big that I've actually split the outcomes across two projects, check out the table here!
